Colleen Ashford, MS, CCC-SLP, is the owner of Ashford Speech and Advocacy P.C., a mobile and virtual private practice based in Southern California that provides evaluations, treatment, consultations, and advocacy at IEP
meetings. After graduating from the University of Illinois with her bachelor's degree and from Illinois State University with her master's degree, she began her SLP career in a public elementary school with a bilingual education program, where she became focused on improving her Spanish to serve her students and their families better. Love then brought her to Southern California, where she began working in multidisciplinary clinics, alongside OTs and PTs from whom she learned a great deal about sensory and motor development, which informs her approach today.
Now working in her private practice, Colleen’s areas of focus include AAC, Autism, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, and parent coaching in early intervention. She is passionate about providing culturally responsive early intervention services to the Spanish-speaking population she serves in her neighborhood. Always an advocate at her core and now in title, Colleen equips all the parents she serves with information on their educational rights and how to navigate the world of special education and through her account, @theadvocate.slp on instagram, she is also bringing a deeper knowledge of special education law and policy to SLPs and teachers too.
