Dr. Cristina Saldaña is a bilingual speech-language pathologist of Colombian and Puerto Rican heritage. She has worked for over 20 years in numerous settings, such as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and the public school systems of New York, Connecticut, Georgia, and Mexico. She is the author of several books in the field of communication disorders. She published her first book in Mexico, which was a workbook of activities for parents to use as home therapy since there were few speech therapists in the country for hundreds of miles. She co-authored the Bilingual Communication Assessment Resource, which has been a huge success for over a decade. She is now the owner of Bilingual Resources for Therapists and Teachers and provides assessment and therapy materials predominantly in English and Spanish. Dr. Saldaña’s goal is to educate and motivate professionals in choosing appropriate materials for their bilingual clients. She stresses that “language should never be a barrier. El idioma nunca debe ser una barrera.” Her workbooks, screening tools, and therapy materials are all in English and Spanish so that students can bridge the gap between the languages and adult clients can practice skills at home with their caretakers.
