Daniel Bowling

Daniel L. Bowling, PhD, is an Instructor in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford Medicine. As a translational neuroscientist, his research integrates music neuroscience, therapy, and technology to develop new diagnostics and treatments for mental health disorders, focusing on mood, anxiety, and reward. He earned his PhD in Neurobiology from Duke University in 2012, investigating the biological bases of emotion in musical tonality. Following postdoctoral work at the University of Vienna on the neurophysiology of group singing and rhythmic entrainment, he joined Stanford in 2019. His work has been supported by awards from the NIMH, the Austrian Science Fund, and Stanford's Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute.
