Deborah Ross-Swain, EdD, CCC-SLP, BCS-CL, serves as the clinical director and CEO of The Swain Center for Listening, Communicating, and Learning. She is Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, where she previously chaired the Government Affairs and Public Policy Committee. A past president of the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CSHA), Dr. Swain served on its Board of Directors for a decade. Her leadership experience includes serving as Chief of Speech-Language Pathology at the University of California, Davis Medical Center, along with a clinical staff appointment at the School of Medicine. Dr. Swain has earned numerous awards from ASHA, CSHA, and academic institutions recognizing her contributions to leadership, advocacy, clinical service, and professional excellence. She is a Fellow of ASHA and a Distinguished Scholar and Fellow of the National Academies of Practice. She also served as Editor of the ASHA SIG 17 Perspectives Journal. As founder and chair of CSHA’s Early Intervention and International Committees, she led efforts to enact policy changes supporting the use of SLPAs in early intervention services across California. A prolific presenter, Dr. Swain has delivered hundreds of papers at state, national, and international conferences. Her work appears in multiple professional publications, and she produced the physician-targeted video "200 by 2," which highlights communication development in two-year-olds. Her latest book, *Confidence and Joy: Success Strategies for Kids with Learning Differences*, is an Amazon best-seller. Dr. Swain is the author of numerous books and standardized test batteries, including *Auditory Processing Disorders–Third Edition: Assessment, Treatment and Management* (co-editor), *The Receptive-Expressive Social Communication Assessment–Elementary*, *The Auditory Phoneme Sequencing Test*, the *RIPA* series, *The Listening Inventory*, *The Swallowing Ability and Function Test*, *Aphasia Rehabilitation: An Auditory and Verbal Treatment Hierarchy*, and *The Cognitive-Linguistic Improvement Program*. She is widely recognized as a national and international speaker and author. Outside of her professional achievements, Dr. Swain was inducted into her high school’s Hall of Fame for competitive swimming. She continues to lead her clinic in Santa Rosa, California, where she specializes in Early Intervention, auditory and spoken-language disorders, learning differences, and cognitive neuroscience.
