Dr. Saunders', PhD, research is broadly designed to optimize outcomes of auditory rehabilitation by furthering our understanding of hearing-related behaviors and individual differences that impact help-seeking and outcomes. She is interested in understanding the facilitators and barriers to help-seeking and uptake of auditory rehabilitation, and in applying principles of health behaviour psychology to change these. However, because current hearing rehabilitation technology (primarily hearing aids) does not completely restore hearing function, her research also aims to ensure that hearing rehabilitation outcomes are optimized for each individual through developing hearing education and counselling that uses evidence-based practices, and personalized interventions for each individual. Finally, in recent work, she has been using big datasets to examine connections between hearing-related outcomes and audiological clinical pathways, and other health-related diagnoses and procedures with a view to developing practice recommendations and illuminating potential issues and solutions specific to the exploitation of service-wide datasets in audiology.
