Kathleen Oppenheimer, MS, CCC-SLP, is a doctoral candidate in Hearing and Speech Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she conducts research under the mentorship of Dr. Nan Bernstein Ratner. She earned her MS in Speech-Language Pathology from Northwestern University and her BA in Linguistics and Chinese from Harvard College. Kathleen previously worked as a speech-language pathologist in a children’s hospital, where she supported language and literacy development in pediatric populations. Her research interests include language and literacy acquisition in children with typical and atypical development, the diagnosis and treatment of language disorders in speakers of non-mainstream English dialects, and the implications of dialect and neurodiversity on educational outcomes. Her dissertation focuses on reading comprehension in college students with Developmental Language Disorder.
