Lisa Bowers, PhD, CCC-SLP, is an associate professor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Program and Director of the Service Learning Initiative at the University of Arkansas. Her research interests focus on language abilities, including receptive and expressive language, and reading and written expression of school-age children. She has published articles in various interdisciplinary scholarly journals. She is a member of several interdisciplinary research teams that include scholars from Elementary Education (K-6th grade), Deaf Education, Special Education, Counseling, Occupational Therapy and Social Work that focus on best practices in Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Practice (IPP) in the school setting. She serves as Chair of the Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorder's (CAPCSD) IPE/IPP committee and as a member of the College of Education and Health Professions Interprofessional Education Council. As Director of the Service-Learning Initiative, Dr. Bowers is committed to organizing and enhancing service-learning opportunities that align academic coursework with learning experiences that benefit the community. Her undergraduate and graduate courses focus on children's language and literacy abilities from infancy to adolescence. She is a certified speech-language pathologist with experience in Early Intervention and K-12 school settings. Lisa and her husband Andy are proud parents of Jacob and Hannah.
