Louise Pinkerton, MM, MA, CCC-SLP, is a clinical singing voice specialist and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa, where she coordinates voice services in the student speech-language pathology clinic. She also serves as a speech-language pathologist for the LGBTQ Clinic at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, providing voice and upper airway services across the lifespan, including rehabilitation for professional voice users and gender-affirming voice training.
Her professional and research interests include voice perception, perceptual training, culturally sensitive practice, graduate student supervision, and group voice therapy. Louise holds a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Iowa and vocal performance degrees from Indiana University and the University of North Dakota. She also earned a certificate in vocology from the University of Utah and the National Center for Voice and Speech.
An active presenter, Louise has contributed to conferences hosted by the Voice Foundation, Pan American Vocology Association (PAVA), American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, National Association of Teachers of Singing, National Federation of Music Clubs, and the National Association for Music Education. She currently serves as the Continuing Education Administrator for ASHA CEUs through PAVA.
Louise is a soprano with professional experience in opera and musical theatre, and she is trained in vocal pedagogy for both classical and contemporary commercial music (CCM). She taught singing privately and at the University of North Dakota and Minnesota State University Moorhead for over 20 years. Her clinical certifications include SPEAK OUT! and LSVT LOUD.
