Neil Cohn
PhD
Dr. Neil Cohn is a cognitive scientist and director of the Visual Language Lab, where he studies the structure and cognition of drawings and sequential images (such as comics) and how people construct meaning from them. His work argues that certain systems of drawing can be understood as “visual languages,” characterized by structured patterns that can be studied using methods from linguistics, cognition, and neuroscience. The Visual Language Lab employs behavioral methods (e.g., comprehension and viewing-time measures) and EEG to examine how the brain processes visual narratives. Unlimited
