Rhiannon Luyster
PhD
Dr. Rhiannon Luyster is an Associate Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Emerson College and a core faculty member of Kids@Emerson. Her research focuses on language development in children with autism, with particular emphasis on variability in language profiles, atypical language features, and how caregiver input shapes communication. Dr. Luyster’s work challenges deficit-based interpretations of autistic language by examining how features such as neologisms, focused interests, and caregiver–child interaction can reflect meaningful, rule-governed linguistic systems. Her research has important implications for assessment, intervention, and how clinicians conceptualize language differences in autism.
