Rita Thurman, MS, CCC, BCS-F, is a board-certified fluency specialist with decades of experience in both school and clinical settings across Utah, Idaho, Illinois, Montana, and North Carolina. Since 1977, she has dedicated her career to the evaluation and treatment of children, teens, and adults who stutter. Her private practice, based in Raleigh, North Carolina and Bozeman, Montana, is known for its individualized, evidence-based approach to fluency intervention. Rita was honored with the Clinical Achievement Award by the North Carolina Speech Language Hearing Association in 2012 and named Speech-Language Pathologist of the Year by the National Stuttering Association in 2015, recognizing her outstanding contributions to the diagnosis and treatment of stuttering. She serves as a chapter leader for both the Adult and TWST (Teens Who Stutter) groups within the National Stuttering Association and sponsors an annual Friend’s Workshop in North Carolina. Rita is also Chair of the Executive Board of the American Board of Fluency and Fluency Disorders, where she continues to shape the future of fluency-focused clinical practice.
