Robert Folmer

Robert L. Folmer, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at *Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU)* and Program Manager for the joint *VA/Department of Defense Hearing Loss Prevention Initiative* at the *National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research (NCRAR)*. He earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees in biology from *San Francisco State University* and completed his PhD in Speech and Hearing Science at the *University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)*.
At UCSF, Dr. Folmer conducted EEG and evoked potential studies for the Departments of Psychiatry, Neurology, Otolaryngology, and Neurosurgery, and provided neurophysiological monitoring during brain and spinal surgeries. Since joining OHSU in 1997, he has contributed to the development of the *Dangerous Decibels* hearing loss prevention education program.
His research interests include transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for tinnitus relief, electrophysiological assessment of auditory processing, and evaluation of auditory and cognitive function in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease, and traumatic brain injury (TBI).
