Dr. Travis Threats has over 50 publications and 100 presentations at international, national, and state conferences. Because of his engaging style, most of these presentations have been invited. He has been an invited keynote speaker at conferences in Chile, Greece, Portugal, the Philippines, Slovenia, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, and New Zealand. He has participated in grants from the Department of Defense, the National Institute of Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control, the US State Department, the US Department of Education -the National Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research, and the Federal Drug Administration. In 2019, he was invited by the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to evaluate the development of the first speech-language pathology academic program in that country. He has also consulted with a representative of the government of Taiwan regarding the use of the ICF in their healthcare electronic record system. Dr. Threats is an ASHA Fellow and the ASHA 2012 recipient of the Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Contributions in International Achievement. He is a Distinguished Scholar and Fellow for the National Academies of Practice (NAP) which is a health professional organization that promotes interdisciplinary healthcare approaches to improve efficiency and effectiveness of health outcomes in individuals. NAP also advises Congress and state governments on policies to improve the US healthcare system. His most distinguished recognition has been awarded Honors of the Association in 2022 by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). According to the ASHA website, this award is described as such: “The Bylaws describe the Honors of the Association broadly to encourage the recognition of those individuals whose contributions have been of such excellence that they have enhanced or altered the course of the professions” https://www.asha.org/about/awards/honors-of-the-association/. It is the highest honor that ASHA bestows. In an association of more than 218,000 professionals, only about 10 are chosen each year. Travis Threats, Ph.D., is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Speech, Language & Hearing Sciences at Saint Louis University. Prior to becoming a faculty member at Saint Louis University, he worked in a long-term care facility, a rehabilitation hospital, an acute care university hospital, and at an outpatient care facility as a speech-language pathologist.
