Yvette Hyter PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-CL, ASHA Honors
Yvette D. Hyter, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-CL, ASHA Honors, is Professor Emerita at Western Michigan University. Her work centers on culturally responsive practices and the impact of trauma on communication, language, and literacy. She is the co-author of a textbook on culturally responsive methods and has a forthcoming textbook focused on language research in post-traumatic stress. Dr. Hyter co-directs the Resiliency Center for Families and Children and is the owner of Language & Literacy Practices, LLC, which offers culturally and linguistically responsive, trauma-informed, and globally sustainable consultations and courses for educational agencies. She is also a founding member of the SLHS Equity Action Collective, whose members established the open-access Journal of Critical Students of Communication and Disability. The collective is committed to transforming scholarship, practice, and policy through critical science, equity, and social justice.
